About Me

Hi, my name is Malikah! 

As someone who has always loved to read, write, and make others laugh, I believe that if you are passionate about something, it becomes a driving force that is unstoppable. For me, I am passionate about education and the idea of being a lifelong learner. What is more, I seek ways to share my love for education with others, because passion is contagious.

 

While completing my degree in Elementary Education, my research focused on children's psychology and the importance of social emotional wellbeing for effective pedagogy. As any exciting story, however, my life encountered a series of plot twists.

 

An educator turned businesswoman, I found myself at the forefront of a company, and suddenly went from instructing children to adults. In just two years, though, I have learned how patience, empathy, and classroom management skills are not limited to the walls of a classroom but also applicable to any field or age group (sometimes managing adults can be just as challenging, and equally as rewarding, as a classroom full of children). 

 

Even though I would never rewrite the unique pages of my story, not being in a classroom created a void in my heart that could only be filled through the joy of interacting with children, something that has always been a part of me. That being said, StoryTown serves as an outlet for me to stay connected with my love for education and the idea of being a lifelong learner. Additionally, on my quest to stay involved with children, I am excited to be leading a local youth program for elementary schoolers this year!

My Vision

In a perfect world, every child would have the access to an affordable education and the resources needed to succeed. While the world is far from perfect, there's still hope! I wish to make my dreams a reality by using different platforms to render work that encompasses  education, literacy, and entertainment for children.

My Mission 

 My goal is to uphold a platform that offers children active engagement with stories through digital storytelling. With this in mind, I work with my team to enliven stories for children to follow along and enjoy on my YouTube channel. I also love working with authors and illustrators who delve into what makes their book so magical. For parents educators, and anyone who loves to read, write, or gain new perspectives, I also hope to create a safe space for discussion regarding all things literature and education on my blog.

My other efforts to stay connected to education include developing a private tutoring platform, establishing a learning community center abroad, and founding a small publishing house. Driven by an unwavering passion for learning, I aspire to continue growing and gaining new experiences while spreading the love for literacy and education.
